A special interest group dedicated to the promotion of Healthcare Engineering and Applied Clinical Science in healthcare and educational settings
The Joint Biomedical Steering Group champions the role of biomedical engineers in healthcare and brings together a range of organisations to collaborate on activities in support of Biomedical Engineering.
The 2025 Peter Wells Memorial Lecture was held online, hosted by IMechE. The guest speaker was Prof. Eleanor Stride OBE on the subject of using microbubbles to treat cancer.
The group's efforts to rationalise UCAS codes to enable more informed choices when looking for careers in Healthcare Engineering, Biomedical Science, and Medical Physics were adopted in 2024 by UCAS.
One of the focusses of the group today is the issue of an aging workforce and sustainability. This is an on going effort lobbying learned societies and professional bodies.
Education and education policy is always a key topic for the group. The learned societies which comprise the group each have their own individual requirements, but we have many in common too, and this is where we must leverage our strength in numbers.
