The group was founded in 2015 by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to promote and support the deployment of engineering in clinical science and healthcare delivery.

Since the inception of the group we have stepped up our activities to supporting conferences and activities in biomedical and clinical engineering, lobbying Government, non-government organisations and other organisations with an interest healthcare delivery using technology.

The original three member organisations have been joined by the Institute of Physics (IOP), the British Computer Society (BCS), the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining(IOM3) and the Faculty of Clinical Informatics (FCI).
